BRAS DDP Clinical Fellow 2020 –
My name is Sofia Genta and I am an Italian oncologist. I obtained my medical degree in 2013 from the University of Turin, and the following year I was admitted to the residency program in Medical Oncology at the Cancer Institute of Candiolo, in Turin.
During my residency, I developed a growing interest for clinical research for studies aimed to achieve a deeper comprehension of tumor biology, and development of innovative therapeutic strategies for cancer patients. Therefore, I spent eighteen months of my residency in the New Drug Development Unit at the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI) in Bellinzona, Switzerland, where I had the opportunity to further strengthen my expertise in clinical research. While there, I worked alongside Dr. Anastasios Stathis, former Fellow of the BRAS New Drug Development Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, who highly recommended I pursue a fellowship in this program.
The BRAS New Drug Development Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is recognized worldwide as a lead institution in cancer research and excellent care. Moreover, this program represents an invaluable opportunity for physicians in training to learn from established experts, and all the different aspects of oncological research and cancer care. These reasons lead me to apply for a fellowship position in the BRAS New Drug Development Program, which I am confident will provide me a solid foundation to develop my career as an independent investigator, and contribute to improving the care of cancer patients.
