Nicole Furey, diagnosed at 19 with rare type of cancer

Nicole Furey was only 19 years old when she found out she had chordoma, a rare type of cancer that occurs in the spine. The young woman from Newfoundland was treated in Toronto and eventually returned home and met the love of her life Christopher. Nicole’s cancer returned in 2018, just as she was planning her wedding. She was accepted into an immunotherapy clinical trial at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and is among the first few clival chordoma patients in the world to do so. Initial results indicate the immunotherapy is working.

She was able to get married as planned. “The Princess Margaret has really allowed me to maintain my quality of life and follow through with the things I had dreamed for my life.”
